Charles H. (Chuck) Baumberger, co-founding partner of the Miami trial law firm Rossman, Baumberger, Reboso & Spier, P.A., has assumed the presidency of the American Board of Trial Advocates Foundation.
The foundation supports ABOTA’s mission to preserve the constitutional vision of equal justice for all Americans and to save the civil justice system for future generations through professional education, youth education, and fundraising.
Mr. Baumberger plans to use his year as president to dramatically expand Justice By the People, a free, online curriculum for grades five through eight, distributed through Scholastics, Inc., the largest educational publisher in the world. The foundation also sponsors the James Otis Lecture Series for high school students, and the Teachers Law School to train educators about the justice system and the role of the jury. The foundation aims to expand its outreach to more than 1 million students.
“Negative perceptions of judges and lawyers permeate the media and the public psyche,” Baumberger said, blaming outrageous conduct by a small minority of lawyers and vocal assault my special interest groups. “I believe this reality provides an excellent opportunity for the Foundation of the American Board of Trial Advocates to educate the American public about our system of justice and the benefits of the right to trial by jury.“
ABOTA is dedicated to improvement in the ethical and technical standards of the trial of advocacy to provide litigants and the general public with more effective representation and fair and efficient administration of justice. Its 6,000 members nationally are evenly divided among plaintiff and defense bars. Visit its website at www.abota.org.
